Vintage F.E. Thomas 10' Bangor Grade DF Salmon Rod

<< Back to Vintage Rods & Reels

Here's another "Handyman Special" for those with a little repair/restoration skill.

A rare configuration Thomas 10' Bangor grade, single handed Dry Fly Salmon rod with a Removable Fighting butt.

Rod is a 3pc with 1 tip.  Weighs 8 1/8oz.

This was the 7th rrod od made in 1949 and still has the original serial numbered removeable fighting butt.

"The Bangor Rod" and the serial number "HG7" are stamped into the butt cap.  Serial number is also on the fighting butt.

The tip is 2 1/4" short, and has a replacement tip top on it.  The Hardy screw lock seat also has a crack which can be seen in the photos, but is still fishable as it is.  Ferrules still fit just fine.

The main issue this rod has is an apparent delamination in the butt section.  The section still remains pretty tight, but a couple long joint gaps are showing.  I tried to capture this in the last photo but it is hard to see in pictures.

Someone with a little repair skill could separate the delaminated sections and reglue before refinishing this rod.

Once this one is fixed up, I bet it would make a great Atlantic Salmon or Steelhead rod for a very resonable price.

You don't see many 10' Dry Fly Salmon rods.

Comes with a replacement aluminum tube.  No bag.

Item #2314 Poor Condition $100.00
